Book Review: The Shadows between Us by Tricia Levenseller

From Goodreads: Alessandra is tired of being overlooked, but she has a plan to gain power:
1) Woo the Shadow King.
2) Marry him.
3) Kill him and take his kingdom for herself.
No one knows the extent of the freshly crowned Shadow King’s power. Some say he can command the shadows that swirl around him to do his bidding. Others say they speak to him, whispering the thoughts of his enemies. Regardless, Alessandra knows what she deserves, and she’s going to do everything within her power to get it.
But Alessandra’s not the only one trying to kill the king. As attempts on his life are made, she finds herself trying to keep him alive long enough for him to make her his queen—all while struggling not to lose her heart. After all, who better for a Shadow King than a cunning, villainous queen?

Review:
“They’ve never found the body of the first and only boy who broke my heart and they never will.”
Tricia Levenseller brings us a new stand alone young adult fantasy romance in The Shadows between us.
It stars Alessandra a young woman who is tired of being overlooked in a strongly male dominated society.
She has her own methods for doing things, and she has her own style which isn’t always looked upon favorably by others.
Now Alessandra has her eyes set on a new prize.. The Shadow King.
He inherited the throne at a very young age and since then no one has been aloud to get close to him for fear they would kill him.
Alessandra intends to change all that and take the throne for her won. she doesn’t expect to lose her heart in the process!
This book is deliciously dark and devious!
Theis very Slytherin couple will keep you at the edge of your seat unable to put the book down!
I will admit to staying up till 2am just to finish this story.. nevermind the fact I had to get up at 6am that morning! 😝

The fact that Alessandra has an obsession with pretty dresses which she creates for herself, (Which made me realise how rare it is for female characters to have hobbies besides reading.) and that the friendships are a surprisingly fun and great addition to the story plus the side stories that made appearances really helped keep the story from feeling stagnant or slow moving.
The writing was fast paced and engaging but the problems I had was with the lack of world building as well as little character depth in some instances made me a bit confused.
I once found a disclaimer Tricia wrote saying, “My characters have unapologetically questionable morals. Don’t expect them to change. It’s who they are.” I will confirm that this is 100% true especially in this book! I will also admit that it’s part of the reason I love the book most.
This book isn’t about becoming a better person. In fact if there was any kind of lesson in this book, it’s to learn to be yourself and don’t worry so much about what other people think!
All in all I rate this book a healthy 4 out of 5 stars⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.
A absolute must read!
Until next time dear readers, Ciao!
